Education

Let's start from the beginning...

I went to "University High School", the Illinois State University Lab School.  For those of you unfamiliar with Lab Schools: the rules are made up and the points don't matter.  I utilized the flexibility of the "educational experimentation" to gain academic credit for working as an R&D systems analyst at State Farm Insurance.  When I wasn't at the office or tinkering in a computer class, I was playing tennis, competing on the speech team, or planning the infamous black-light-dance.

Go Navy / Beat Army!

The U.S. Naval Academy was an incredible, painful, transformative experience.  But that's kind of the point.  I think most 18 year old boys show up expecting to be molded into a government killing machine a-la-Jason-Bourne.  What actually happens is you spend four years having every waking moment filled with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.  Astronaut conference?  Check.  International government visits? Check.  Sail from Miami to the arctic circle?  Check.  Take Calc-3 in summer school? (Ahem..)

A lifetime to go.

It seems like everything I do is just more school in one form or another.  But that's the way I like it.  I recently completed my Master's in Computer Science and Data Science from UIUC.  I am especially interested in continued research at the intersection of technology, business, and sustainability.  If there are questions I can answer or guidance I can give, please don't hesitate to reach out!
